Margarita Gutiérrez Martínez

Margarita is a talented weaver and wool dyer. Her favorite part of the work is dyeing with organic elements. She loves experimenting and creating new colors for her rugs and bags. She is a hardworking artist and mother to her 5 year old daughter. Margarita hopes to set the example of a true master weaver to her small girl to preserve the ancestral techniques.

Ana María Gutiérrez Martínez

Ana Maria is a woman who weaves like a giant on her loom. She is as talented as her father who used to weave designs by counting the strings versus drawing on the strings to complete a design. She is a woman who finds weaving to be peaceful and enjoyable.

Anastacio Gutiérrez Martínez

Anastacio Gutierrez is the eldest of his 6 brothers and sisters. He is a full-time weaver and musician, as well as a music teacher for his young nieces and grandchildren. What he loves doing best is weaving big rugs for living rooms and halls. His work is a one of a kind.

Pedro Gutiérrez Martinez

Pedro is a charismatic musician, weaver, husband, and father who is in love with all forms of art. He is named after his father, Pedro Gutierrez, who was also a weaver and who taught his son this amazing artistry. Today, Pedro weaves as a part-time job to sustain his wife and three lovely children. You can find him weaving in his sister’s home or playing the violin and trumpet at a party.

Nazaria Gutiérrez Lazaro

If the word sweet were a person, it would look like our lovely aunt Nazaria. She is the most hard-working woman. Nazaria is a mother of four successful children, a caring wife, and a weaver. If you would ever meet Nazaria she will welcome you with a familiar warm smile.

Felicitas Gutiérrez Lazaro

Also known as Licha within the family, is the eldest of the cousins. We all consider Licha to be a great role model because of her great sense of responsibility and honesty. Licha weaves for a part time job in order to sustain her three toddlers.

Maximiliano Vicente

Max, also known as “El macho mexicano” within our family, is a hardworking individual who immigrated to the states and worked three part time jobs. Today he is back with his family in Oaxaca and weaves for a living. He couldn’t be more happier next to his children and grandchildren.

Arnulfo Gutiérrez

Arnulfo is the brother of our grandfather Pedro Gutierrez. Him and Pedro used to work alongside each other in the weaving business. The brothers are successful master weavers. To this day, Arnulfo continues to weave as a full time job alongside his daughters whom he taught how to weave.

Josefina & Graciela Gutiérrez

Josefina and Graciela are the daughters of our family member Arnulfo Gutierrez. These two creative weavers form part of a collective in Oaxaca called “Duu Kua” where they practice sustainable weaving and wool dyeing. Their pieces are unique and elegant.

Hilda Bautista Gutiérrez

Our creative aunt Hilda also participates in the “Duu Kua” collective with other members from our village. Her work can be described as innovative and artistic. Along with her husband Pedro Contreras. they work as full time weavers to sustain their family. Hilda works endlessly everyday to complete her pieces.

Emilia Sosa

Emilia is a talented weaver, loving wife, and mother. She enjoys to weave bags and small coin pockets. Emilia spends most of her time dyeing organic elements and spending time in her organic farm, she truly likes to live to the fullest. Not to mention, she is a plant lover.

Juan Contreras

Juan is the husband of Emilia Sosa, and together they are a weaving duo. He mostly weaves rebozos and bags for men. Juan will always welcome you with a smile in his home. .

Marcos Contreras Sosa

Marco is the husband of our cousin Felícitas. He is a part time weaver and mariachi musician. He handles two job in order to sustain his wife and children. Marcos is a very passionate about his jobs.
